The Bikeability Trust has taken the decision to postpone the 2020 national training conference in May at the HSBC venue in Birmingham due the anticipated, increased risk of Covid-19 infection.

It was a very difficult decision to make but we felt that it was important to have a clear decision as soon as possible to avoid the industry incurring payments for conference places, travel and possibly also accommodation costs. We are hopeful that we will be able to reschedule the conference to the Autumn half-term and are already looking into options for this.

If you have already paid for conference places via EventBrite you will receive an automatic refund shortly. If you paid via a different channel we will be in touch to discuss refund arrangements.

We are very grateful to all the workshop facilitators who have been preparing content for the sessions – we are confident that we will be able to put these sessions on later this year.


We will however be going ahead with a ‘virtual’ Bikeability Awards 2020 programme this year and hope to announce the winners, with associated PR in May.


Please note the following contingency arrangements for the use of DfT Bikeability grant funding for courses cancelled due to potential school closures:

For a period of up to two weeks from the date of forced school closures, Bikeability grant recipients will be allowed to claim grant for courses that have to be cancelled as a direct result of these closures. At present we expect that, if such closures happen, they would be for a period of two weeks, and this dispensation will only apply for that two week period. We will keep this arrangement under review depending on the duration of any closures, and advice from the Chief Medical Officer. Please continue to keep records of school course bookings and cancellations for audit purposes.
